During a regular EESCC meeting, Bonnie Mueller shared a rare and historic document from her vast autosports memorabilia collection. It was the Oregon International Raceway August 1965 Pamphlet. Bonnie also shared the entry list for the August 1965 race event, which provided a rare glimpse into auto racing in the 60's. Thank you Bonnie!! For those who are not familiar, Goshen, Oregon provided a race track on the east side of Interstate 5. Designed by John Hugenholtz, the 2.8-mile circuit opened on 4th June 1964, and closed in 1966. It hosted SCCA regional events and was well-used in its short life. During its operation, the track was flooded due to its proximity to the Willamette River and partially damaged. It was used afterward but was described as being very rough where the flooding had taken place. The operator did not have enough money to repave it which lead to its demise. There were even plans to build an oval and a drag strip, but these never came to fruition. The location is currently the Lane County Short Mountail Landfill. If you look at aerial photographs today of the landfill, you can still pick up pieces of the track course.
